The DDH offers several ingestion methods to choose from.
- Spreadsheet upload (multiple journals)
A trusted source representative can share the metadata of multiple journals with the DDH by filling in the spreadsheet template provided by the DDH and directly uploading them using the GUI. The delimiter for the data in the cells is semicolon ;.
If the number of journals is greater than 10, we recommend using this template.
- Upload using a form (individual journals)
In case there are only a few journals, a form can be used to upload them to the DDH. We recommend using the form if your trusted source lists fewer than 10 journals. In this case, they can be added one by one quickly. The methods can be combined. If a trusted source previously used a spreadsheet to upload multiple journals, and needs to add one or a small number of new journals, the form can be used in this case.
- Methods using the JMEF format
JMEF is an xml format internally used by DDH.
3.1. OJS plugin
Trusted sources using Open Journal Systems (OJS) can use a plugin that converts journal data to JMEF. Once installed, OJS editors enter additional metadata (such as diamond information) required for proper ingestion by the DDH.
You can then configure your journal source by selecting “OJS_JMEF” as the URL format and entering a list of URLs pointing to either journal homepages or JMEF data pages (e.g. http://ojs.journal/jmef), one journal per line. The DDH then automatically connects to OJS daily to retrieve and process the specified journal data.
This is a go-for method for OJS-based platforms. In contrast to the spreadsheet-upload or the upload using the form, it allows automatic updates in the DDH of any changes to journal data that take place on your OJS platform.
3.2. OAI-PMH with support for JMEF format
The DDH is able to download journal metadata from websites that use the OAI-PMH protocol with JMEF format support. To ingest journals using this method, the DDH administrator configures the journal source by selecting “OAI_JMEF” as the URL format and entering a URL that points to the OAI installation. Once configured, the DDH connects to OAI daily to retrieve all new or updated journals, which allows to keep the data up-to-date without additional efforts.
